RATES
Rates and Charges are levied on all rateable properties within the shire in accordance with Council’s Budget Meeting Resolutions.
Council levies rates and charges on a half yearly basis.
Notices for the first levy, covering the period 1 July to 31 December are issued in August.
Notices for the second levy, covering the period 1 January to 30 June are issued in February.
Water consumption charges (where applicable) are levied in arrears for the previous six months and included with the half yearly rate notices.
COUNCIL REMISSIONS
Council allows a remission of rates and charges to aged pensioners who qualify for the State Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme. The Council remission is $20.00 per rate levy ($40.00 per annum).
If you are in receipt of an aged pension and qualify for the State Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme and the Council remission is not shown on your rate notice, please contact Council to ascertain your eligibility.
STATE GOVERNMENT PENSIONER RATE SUBSIDY SCHEME
Council administers the State Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme in accordance with guidelines determined by the Department of Families, Youth and Community Care.
Applicants must be in receipt of either a ‘Pensioner Concession Card’, issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs or a ‘Repatriation Health Card- For All Conditions’, issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The 20% rebate (to a maximum of $180.00 p.a.) is available to pensioners for rates and charges levied on their principal place of residence.
DISCOUNT
10% discount is allowed if payment of the net amount of rates and charges is received on or before the date.
Discount is not applicable to amounts in arrears, interest, fire levy, water consumption, separate, special, Preston Water or other sundry charges.
Discount will not be allowed under any circumstances on payments received by Council or it's collection agents after the due date.
INTEREST
Compound interest, calculated on daily rests at the rate of 11% per annum, will be charged on any amount which remains unpaid thirty days after the due date.
SALE OF LAND FOR ARREARS OF RATES
Where all or part of a rate or charge remains unpaid for three years or more, Council may proceed to have the property sold to recover the overdue rates in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Please notify Council by post, fax or email rates@lvrc.qld.gov.au if your postal address has changed.
To ensure the accuracy and security of Council’s property records, change of address information will not be accepted over the telephone.
Collection Agents cannot accept change of address advices.
