Vision Statement...

Vision for the Region

Lockyer Valley Region will be a sustainable, progressive and self reliant rural community, a centre for world class education and research and a model for other regions in the application of clean and green environmental solutions.

Mission of the Region

Lockyer Valley Regional Council aims to provide appropriate services for the whole of the community, and fosters a cohesive, caring and cooperative environment.
We provide to the community local government services that enable residents to enhance their lifestyle in their enjoyment and interests of the rural commercial and educational advantages of the area.

Lockyer Valey Regional Council

Lockyer Valley Regional Council comprises of an elected Mayor and 6 Councillors, with an equivalent full time staff of  approx 260.

As a local government authority we are committed to providing quality services to residents and visitors in the pursuit of our vision for the Shire.

 Council Departments...

Executive Office

The  Executive Office falls under the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for Regional Economic Development, Tourism, Community Development, Events, Youth Development and Public Relations.

The Department has a management structure and key personnel engaged in these defined areas of operation to ensure an effective means of delivery throughout the community.
The office will explore regional opportunities while providing linkages to whole of Government Services and external opportunities.

The key focus areas of the Executive office will be:

  • Providing sound economic and growth strategies for the region
  • Assisting tourism development
  • Support council endorsed events
  • Providing opportunities for youth development
  • Supporting community development through facilitiating capacity building
  • Providing accurate dissemination of information to the broader community

Planning and Environment

The Planning and Environment Department is responsible for the management of natural and built environment in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area.

Planning

Strategic planning for all land related activities and the environment through the management and preparation of the planning schemes are a key function.

Directly related to this is the assessment of proposals for rural, residential, commercial, industrial and recreational development which are balanced with the significant enviromental values of the area.

Another role is involvement through liaison, co-ordination and representation to state government agencies to ensure the local values of the Council are reflected and represented in the wider South East Queensland Region.

Environment

Assessing and identifying the natural environment values of the flora and fauna and managing the effects of development to ensure the important features of the area are preserved and natural resource management are funtions of this group.

Building and Plumbing

The assessment, approval and regulation of building work plus plumbing, drainage and on site sewerage facilities associated with the built environment form a mayor part of this function.

Community Services

The Community Services Department provides services to enhance the health, wellbeing and opportunities for the community to participate in the life of the Shire. Responsibilities include:

  • Environmental protection
  • Community health
  • Child care services
  • Library services
  • General community facilities
  • Animal and pest control

Technical Services

Technical Services Department is responsible for the following functions within Council:

  • Water Supply and Wastewater
     - Provision of water supply and wastewater services to the Shire residents and customers
     - Operation and maintenance of the water supply and wastewater systems
     - Strategic planning for Water Supply and Wastewater
  • Plant Fleet
     - Operation and maintenance of all Council vehicles and plant
     - Purchase of all new vehicles and plant
  • Depots
    - Operation and maintenance of the Depots
  • Disaster Management
    - Liaison with State Government Emergency Service
    - Coordination of all relief efforts in the event of a major disaster within the Shire
  • SES Management
    - Coordiantion between Council and local SES groups
  • Facilities Management
    -Construction of minor buildings in the Shire
    - Maintenance of all Council buildings etc.

Engineering Operation

The Department is responsible for the survey, design, construction and maintenance of the Shires road and drainage network and the construction and maintenance of Council parks.

The Department has a Director of Engineering Operations as well as a Manager Road Infrastructure, manager Design and a manger Assets. It also has a Works Manager, Overseers, Technical Officers, Design Engineer, Cadet Technical Officers, Foreman, Gangers, Plant Operators and Labourers and Administration Officers, a total staff of about 117.

The roles of the Department are as follows:

  • Ensuring a high standard of design, construction and maintenance of Councils roads, drainage and parks infrastructure including appropriate traffic engineering standards
  • Providing sound management of all of Council's assests
  • Responding to complaints about Council's road and drainage network in a timely manner
  • Undertaking Development Assessment and ensuring through the design checking and works inspections processes that subdivisional development is of an appropriate standard
  • Undertaking private works on a competitive basis including works for government departments such as the Department of Main Roads
  • Carrying our Road to Recovery projects and works as approved through the Regional Roads Groups process
  • Being innovative in its adoption of new technologies/techniques in the provision of engineering infrastructure
  • Ensuring a safe environment and safe work practices for Council's Engineering Operations staff.
