Settlement Program

Settling into a new area can be a long and hard process and that’s why Lockyer Valley Regional Council endeavours to make this process as easy as possible.  At Council we offer a range of services to assist migrants and new arrivals to the region through their settlement process.

This program is for permanent residents who have arrived in Australia in the past five years as:

  • humanitarian entrants
  • family stream migrants with low English skills
  • dependants of skilled migrants living in the Lockyer Valley who have low English skills.

It is also available for temporary residents and their dependents living in the Lockyer Valley who arrived in Australia in the past five years and hold a prospective marriage visa, provisional spouse visa and interdependency visa.

How we can help

We provide settlement information, advice, assistance and document help on a one-on-one basis. We also link with government and community based service providers e.g. Centrelink, financial institutions, health, education, immigration support, legal services and accommodation providers. We also provide information sessions to groups. Topics may include employment, emergency services, driver information, Centrelink, health and nutrition. We support school students with homework during school term through volunteer tutors.

You can help too

Settlement programs are enhanced by an extraordinary team of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to assist primary school aged residents at Homework Club. If you are interested in contributing to Homework Club as a volunteer or are interested in supporting any other programs, please contact the Multicultural team at Lockyer Valley Regional Council on 1300 005 872.

These Settlement Services are supported by funding from the Australian Government, Department of Social Services under the Settlement Grants funding program.
