Environmental Portfolio Councillor Rick Vela said swooping is normal defensive behaviour during the breeding season.
“We encourage residents to take the right precautions to keep themselves safe from swooping magpies, as incidents can occur anytime from July to December,” Cr Vela said.
- Protecting your head and eyes,
- Wearing a hat and sunglasses,
- Carrying an open umbrella,
- Walking your bicycle,
- Don’t run,
- Don’t provoke or attack,
- Leaving quickly, and/or
- Trying a different route.
