Register now to safely dispose of flood-impacted chemicals
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is teaming up with Agsafe to help local farmers impacted by the recent weather event.
Agsafe will hold a chemical collection clean-up in the region in May to assist farmers with the safe disposal of flood-impacted chemicals. Council is lending a hand by providing the use of the Gatton Transfer Station as a temporary drop-off location.
Lockyer Valley Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Councillor for Waste, Cr Jason Cook said farmers and other users of Agvet chemicals simply need to register first with Agsafe for the free disposal.
“This campaign is designed to enable the safe and secure removal of flood-impacted chemicals off farms and out of rural communities, at no additional cost for registrants disposing of eligible products.
“Our landholders were hit hard in February’s weather event and Council welcomes this partnership with Agsafe on an important initiative that provides a safe disposal method for our farmers and landholders.
“Unused or unwanted chemicals just lying about are both an environmental and public health risk and it is vital we dispose of flood-impacted chemicals in the right manner, and this program allows us to do that,” Cr Cook said.
Farmers and landholders with flood-impacted chemicals need to register at chemclear.org.au/register-your-chemical prior to 19 May 2022.
