Register now for the Lockyer Valley Community Forum
Lockyer Valley Regional Council will put the spotlight on how to build a more inclusive, disaster-resilient community at an upcoming community forum.
Council has partnered with Queenslanders with Disability Network, Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction in Australia (DIDRR), Community Services Industry Alliance Ltd and Department of Industry, Science and Resources to host the first of three forums to develop inclusive strategies, actions and plans to help us act before and after a disaster to include people with disability.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan is encouraging residents to come along to the Lockyer Valley Community Forum when it is held in October.
Mayor Milligan said the two-day community event was designed for those with disability and supporters, disability and community services, emergency services, local government and interested community members.
“Being prepared and having a plan for disasters and emergencies is important for each of us individually, and as a community.
“We know this is especially important for people with disability, and those with additional needs as it minimises risks and save lives.
“However, to achieve this we all have a part to play - people with disability, community members, Government, Council, disability and community organisations and emergency services.
“This is the first in a series of three forums over two years that will help us to develop the inclusive strategies, actions and plans that will help us to act before, during and after a disaster to include people with disability and others in our community,” she said.
