Council flicking the switch to shine a light on significant days
Lockyer Valley Regional Council will activate its coloured building lights throughout the year to highlight significant days and causes.
Facilities Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said residents may notice the exterior of the Gatton Administration Building, clock tower, and now the Laidley Cultural Centre, glowing different hues to recognise an important cause or day.
“Activating our coloured lights is one of the small ways Council can help spread awareness of causes and days that are especially meaningful,” he said.
“Most recently, we turned one of the buildings red for the annual Day for Daniel Morcombe, and earlier this year, the building was lit up pink to promote little Emily’s Day for Batten Disease Awareness.
“On ‘National Corrections Day’ in January, we also turned the lights blue to recognise and give thanks to all the locals working on the frontline of community safety.”
Now, Council has moved to formalise a list of causes and days it will acknowledge each year, which can be found under the ‘Lockyer Lights’ page on Council’s website.
“As you can imagine, there are a lot of ‘days’ and causes held across the world, and we’ve chosen the ones we believe have particular meaning to Council and the greater community,” Cr Wilson said.
“We’re also excited to have the ability to light up the Laidley Cultural Centre after coloured exterior lights were recently installed there.”
