Be part of the Laidley Spring Festival Street Parade!

Applications are now open for the 2026 Laidley Spring Festival Grand Street Parade, and this year’s theme is COUNTRY HARVEST.

Bring the country spirit to town with floats, tractors, farmyard fun, fresh produce, scarecrows and all things harvest season!

If it can be grown, driven, baked, picked, baled or loaded onto a trailer, we want to see it in the parade.

Parade Date: Saturday 12 September
Time: Rolling out from 10am sharp

New road names

Councillors recently approved the request to name three new roads associated with a rural residential development at Glencoe Road, Withcott. The roads will be named Joseph Street, Fred Street and Reg Place.

Council also approved names for the new roads to be created in Stage 2 of the subdivision of land at Red Gum Drive, Gatton to be Boonaree Place, Bulloak Close, Whitewood Court and Nardoo Place.

Council is responsible for assigning an official name to every gazetted road that is used to access properties. Under Council’s policy, road names are to be appropriate and relevant, and from nominated categories.

Expressions of Interest – Lockyer Valley Festival of Cultures

Council is seeking expressions of interest to hold activities, information stalls, cultural displays, or cultural performances at the upcoming Lockyer Valley Festival of Cultures.

The festival will be held on Sunday, 9 August from 11am – 4pm at the Gatton Shire Hall.

The aim of the festival is to celebrate all the region’s cultures and to promote intercultural connections.

Your Story Matters Writing Workshop

Join us at Gatton Library on Saturday 6 June for a memoir writing workshop with Natalie Stockdale – a Big Sky Publishing author who has spent decades living and working in rural and regional Australia.

Your Story Matters is a practical, warm, and deeply enjoyable half-day workshop designed for people who have never written a memoir before. Participants leave with a written scene from their own life – the beginning of their memoir.

Where: Gatton Library
When: 9.30am – 2pm (including 30-minute break)

Bin collection tips

Want your wheelie bins collected without any hiccups? Follow these handy tips to ensure they are emptied each and every time.

Timing:

• Your bin needs to be out before 6am on collection day.
• If you prefer to be prepared early, bins can be placed out from 6am the day before your scheduled service.
• Once emptied, your bin must be back inside your property boundary within 24 hours.

Placement:

• Ensure your bin is within 1 metre of the kerb or road verge and keep about 1 metre of space between each bin. This gives the truck enough room to grab them safely.
• They also need to face the street, with the lid opening towards the road, and wheels and handle facing your property.
• Keep your bins clear of obstacles, like parked cars, trees, fences, or letterboxes. If the truck can’t reach it or pick it up safely, it can’t empty it.

Filling Your Bin Correctly:

• Your bin shouldn’t be over full, and the lid must close completely.
• It also needs to weigh under 80 kilograms and be packed so everything inside can fall out freely when tipped into the truck.
• For your yellow recycling bin, make sure recyclable items are placed loosely in the bin.
• Recyclable items should not be placed in plastic or paper bags or in cardboard boxes. This ensures the recyclable items can be sorted correctly into their waste types and recycled.
