It was a special Story Time at Gatton Library today, with children and families coming together to celebrate National Assistance Dog Day.
The Story Time session featured not only our four-legged friends, but also dog-themed stories, songs and activities designed to educate young readers about assistance dogs and the valuable work they do in the community.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said National Assistance Dog Day, observed on 4 August, highlights the unique partnership between assistance dogs and the people they support.
"Our young people and families love our Library Story Time sessions and today was a fun and engaging way for children to discover how assistance dogs help people navigate daily life with confidence and independence.
"These are remarkable animals who make a life-changing impact and provide invaluable support to many in our communities,” Cr Reck said.
There was also the opportunity for attendees to learn about the different types of assistance dogs and how members of the public can support handlers by respecting and recognising working dogs while they are on duty.
The event forms part of Lockyer Valley Libraries’ ongoing commitment to delivering engaging programs that promote literacy, learning and community connection for residents of all ages.
