Cahill Park FOGO Planting Day
Cahill Park native tree planting using community generated FOGO
The community celebrated with Council at Cahill Park Market on 27 November 2022 as Council unveiled the latest tree planting project topped off with the amazing community-generated FOGO soil conditioner!
Council crews have been hard at work establishing new gardens at Cahill Park, including planting 24 native trees to beautify the sports ground and help shade the car park areas in years to come – with another 96 plants due to be installed following rainfall expected in early December.
Council is giving the saplings the best start to life by spreading nutrient-rich FOGO compost on the garden beds – yet another example of the fantastic benefits recycling and reusing waste brings to the community.
Community members visited Counci's FOGO marquee to learn more about this wonderful initiative and the positive outcomes of the State Government Funded Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) trial.
Visitors grabbed a photo wearing one of the FOGO shirts to receive a free mini bin, compost and plant.
During the 12-month FOGO trial, participants diverted a massive 385 tonnes (the weight of 77 elephants!) worth of compostable waste from landfill.
Council was thrilled with the results of the trial and have decided to continue the trial until 30 June 2023 to build on its success and enable additional information and data to be collected.
