Local school students kicking goals through Waste Warrior Program

Lake Clarendon State School had the spotlight put on its Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) Waste Warrior project – today welcoming Councillors to the school to view the important project.

Waste Warriors is an educational program that commenced at the school in February this year, with students diverting an impressive 194.7kgs of food waste from landfill.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Councillor for Waste, Cr Jason Cook said Councillors were on hand to award certificates of participation to each Grade 6 student.

“The morning was a great chance to chat to the youngsters and hear just how well the school has done so far in its Waste Warrior journey.

“Students were thrilled to receive a certificate of thanks for their efforts, while we also enjoyed watching a video featuring Costa the Garden Gnome, Scrap Boy and Waste Warrior pledges,” he said.

Lake Clarendon students, as well as other participating schools and students were emerging as leaders in waste management, Cr Cook said.

“Waste Warriors is designed to seed the amazing minds of future waste managers, and so far the results have been very inspiring.

“These schools play a vital role in ensuring this important message is instilled in our youngest community members, and we congratulate these students on playing their part to make this happen,” Cr Cook said.
