Council joins forces to keep those in need warm this winter
Winter has arrived with a vengeance in the Lockyer Valley, and that is why Council is playing an important role in keeping our more vulnerable residents warm throughout the chilly months.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has joined forces to throw its support behind the Laidley Community Centre, who are in need of any new or preloved blankets and winter wear including coats, hats, and scarves to help those in need.
The recent cold snap, together with the current housing crisis has resulted in the Laidley Community Centre experiencing an unprecedented demand for warm goods from families doing it extra tough this winter.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan, said Council staff established a winter blanket drive, with staff generously donating to help locals in need.
Mayor Milligan said such initiatives go a long way towards building social cohesion within the community.
“Together, the collective efforts of our community can really make a warmer and more caring society.
“Let’s set about to make a positive change to our community – not only through physical warmth but by showing compassion to those who need it most.
“We’re encouraging residents to check what you have at home and, if you can, please donate to the Community Centre and help those in need to stay warm this winter,” Mayor Milligan said.
Recently, members of Laidley Community Centre stopped by Council to collect the first round of donations.
Any community members wanting to donate should contact either the Laidley or Lockyer Community Centres directly.
