Join in National Simultaneous Storytime at Lockyer Valley Libraries

The countdown is on – National Simultaneous Storytime is almost here!

Join us at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 21 May to experience the magic of stories, as we read this year’s book, ‘The Truck Cat’ by Deborah Frenkel.

Now in its 25th year, National Simultaneous Storytime will once again see a picture book – written and illustrated by an Australian author – read simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes, children’s facilities and early childhood education and care services all over the country.

The event is an annual campaign by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) that encourages young children to read and enjoy books.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said National Simultaneous Storytime is such a wonderful way to read together and connect through stories.

“The meaning behind this wonderful initiative is simple; everyone reads the same book at the same time.

“It is incredibly special to think that Australia-wide, everyone is coming together to share the exact same story.

“There is such value in reading and literacy, so we hope to see as many children and parents come along to enjoy songs, games, rhymes and plenty of fun.

“This annual event reinforces the First 5 Forever program which encourages parents and caregivers to talk, read, sing and play with their child every day, while also placing a spotlight on the incredibly beneficial story time activities in our libraries,” Cr Reck said.

National Simultaneous Storytime will be held at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 21 May, 11.30am for 12pm start.
