Pledge to Drive So Others Survive

It’s the start of National Road Safety Week and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is sending an important message to the region’s motorists – pledge to drive so others survive.

National Road Safety Week puts a spotlight on the importance of road safety issues, together with highlighting the steps we can all take to ensure a safer environment for ourselves, and other road users.

It’s vital we do our part to keep our community safe, says Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan.

“Adhering to this message really does go a long way towards keeping our community safe.

“There’s a range of things we can all do to make this happen, which includes not speeding, driving while distracted and never driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

“With 100 road crew staff working across our region, it’s so important for everyone to abide by traffic conditions.

“The people who are maintaining our roads are often our friends, neighbours or relatives and we want them all to get home safely.

“Each year, around 1300 people are killed on Australian roads and another 40,000 are seriously injured and this number is just too high.

“We shouldn’t underestimate the trauma caused by road crashes – it really is felt by so many.

“Making a commitment to get home safely means our family and friends, work colleagues, community groups and emergency service workers are as safe as can be.

“Let’s make a daily pledge to make sure that every journey ends safely because road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Cr Hagan said.
