Council celebrates local volunteers
It’s National Volunteer Week for 2025 and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is putting a spotlight on our selfless community members who freely donate their time to the act of volunteering.
National Volunteer Week, running from 19 – 25 May, celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme 'Connecting Communities'.
Council has a range of dedicated volunteers who assist the community in a variety of roles, including at our Visitor Information Centre (VIC).
VIC volunteer Valerie Edwards started volunteering in March 2024 and serves as a floating volunteer, being on-hand around three times each month.
Valerie, who runs her own entertainment business, said this was her opportunity to do something for her community.
“It’s always lovely to have a change of scenery and to socialise with other volunteers, and the wider community.
“Volunteering also provides first-hand experience which I can relate to my studies, so I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity,” she said.
Council’s Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan, moved to pay tribute to all volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the Lockyer Valley.
“As Mayor, I have the privilege of witnessing firsthand how our volunteers make such a lasting impact on our community.
“We are beyond lucky to have so many incredible volunteers not only throughout Council, but the wider community too.
“The support they provide makes the world of difference to the lives of so many within our community.
“Their generosity, dedication, and kindness help make the Lockyer Valley a better place for everyone.
“The hard-working volunteers who are the heart and soul of our local sports clubs and community groups, to those helping to build a vibrant community at local events and facilities, and the many compassionate individuals who give their time in our charity shops, animal rescue centres – and everything in between – we say thank you,” Mayor Milligan said.
