Slam dunk for Gatton’s new basketball half-court

The new basketball half-court at Lake Apex, Gatton is officially complete.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Facilities Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said the facility demonstrated Council’s commitment to providing high-quality open spaces that supports active and healthy communities.

“This facility is a much-needed investment that addresses both the current and future growth of basketball in the region, as well as highlighting Council’s commitment to enhancing the region’s parks, sporting fields and recreational spaces.

“We want a healthy community, and participation in sport and recreation is necessary to make that a reality.

“Our sporting clubs do a wonderful job in getting people involved and active and we need to make sure we have good facilities to support that.

“We also recognise that some people prefer to participate in unstructured social sport rather than at a club level, so we are ensuring we have facilities to support that too,” Cr Wilson said.

The $160,000 project features several unique features, including a commercial grade paint solution, ensuring the ultimate grip for high performance playing.

It also complements the existing skatepark, off-leash dog park, walking tracks and playgrounds.

This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.
