Council's 2024-25 Bitumen Reseal Program sees 42 local roads resealed

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s 2024-25 Bitumen Reseal program has resealed 42 local roads.

That equates to a whopping 230,000 square metres of existing road pavement, says Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan.

“Road maintenance is vital, and we always strive to be proactive in this space.

“It not only increases safety and extends the lifespan of the region’s sealed road network, but is always cheaper for our residents in the long run too.

“Our road network is one of our greatest assets and without this essential upkeep, roads would deteriorate faster,” he said.

Cr Hagan said the process was both simple, yet effective.

“The most important step for our crews is to ensure they plan and prepare, which can sometimes start more than one year in advance.

“The reseal is primarily about waterproofing the surface to protect the pavement and extend its life, as well as improve surface texture issues.

“By resealing, we can reduce future maintenance costs and extend the lifespan of our roads, ensuring they remain in a safe condition and resistant to weather-related damage.

“It is vital we uphold the integrity of the network while also improving driving conditions for residents, businesses, and visitors.

“We appreciate this has been an inconvenience for some, however we’re pleased to continue delivering long-term benefits to the region’s road infrastructure,” Cr Hagan said.

Final seals have been completed, with line marking to follow soon.

The program is jointly funded by both Council and the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program.

The RTR Program supports maintenance of the nation’s local road infrastructure assets, which facilitates greater accessibility for Australians and improves safety, economic and social outcomes.
