Join in the fun at the upcoming Community Planting Day

The Lockyer Valley community is being called upon to lend a hand at the upcoming community tree planting day at 7 Mile lagoon, near the Lockyer Waters Community Centre.

Held as part of World Environment Day celebrations, the day is all about creating wilder and healthier green spaces to help improve the local environment and liveability of the region.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Environment Portfolio Councillor, Cheryl Steinhardt said Council has partnered with Greening Australia and Resilient Rivers SEQ – an initiative of the Council of Mayors (SEQ), to host the day.

“We’re going to plant an area of native vegetation that will provide critical, biodiverse habitat for our local wildlife and help further enhance the values of a wetland of high ecological significance.

“This is a great chance to connect with residents to plant trees and learn more about the vital role of native plants, fauna and habitat connectivity.

“This event will only add to our region’s biodiversity and vegetation cover and beautify the parkland near the new community facility.

“So, if you care about the natural environment, enjoy coming together with other like-minded people and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, — get involved!

“We’re gearing up to plant more than 750 trees and shrubs, so I’m urging our green thumbs to come on down and lend your hands for a good cause,” Cr Steinhardt said.

This is a free event, but participants are asked to register beforehand, as a light lunch will be provided.

Participants are asked to bring sturdy shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing, gloves and a water bottle.
