Landholders urged to register for flood debris collection

Rural landholders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred are encouraged to register for free collection of any remaining bulk flood debris.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said this was for flood-damaged waste from the ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred event only.

“We’re aware of considerable amounts of plastic and grass caught up in farm fences and are now able to offer this limited time service to assist with cleaning these areas up.

“Often, the waste caught in fences didn’t come from the same property, leaving it unclear who is responsible to clean it up and dispose of it.

“Council has recently become aware of a government funding stream that can assist Council cover the costs of waste collection as a direct result of the ex-TC Alfred severe weather event.

“This does not include repairs to any form of damage, including fences, and is only for the flood event which began on 9 March 2025.

“Registrations are available for a short time only as the work needs to be completed relatively quickly, so if you think you might be eligible, please register now.

“Anyone who has previously contacted Council for this type of assistance is asked to complete the simple registration form to ensure they’re not missed.

“While we will make every effort to provide this service to all eligible applicants, doing so may be constrained by weather, contractor availability and the tight timeframe associated with the available external funding,” Mayor Milligan said.

Assistance for these services is provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
