Almost there for Lake Apex entrance and accessibility upgrade works

Works on the Lake Apex entrance and accessibility project are nearing completion.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council infrastructure crews are undertaking works at the important community facility, funded under the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the project was all about making sure the Lake Apex precinct catered to diverse user needs.

“We’re widening the main entrance to alleviate peak-time congestion, while a new sealed car park constructed in the lower area will provide additional spaces.

“Preparation works for this are now complete and we’re awaiting seal and asphalt.

“Works on the new sealed carpark are set to begin later this month, while crews are also working on a dedicated turnaround bay to improve traffic flow and concrete paths on the western side of Lake Apex.

“Once complete, this will link the picnic and playground areas, resulting in increased pedestrian connectivity.

“To support users of all abilities, two new accessible shelters, boasting seating and bubblers will also be installed, ensuring there are comfortable, shaded rest points throughout the reserve.

“Visitors can escape the sun thanks to shade trees that support the natural environment and existing flora and fauna.

“We now have the majority of the footpath construction and 50 per cent of the subgrade earthworks complete, with civil works scheduled to be completed by next month, weather pending.

“We ask the community to abide by the safety signage and take appropriate safety precautions for the duration of the works,” Cr Hagan said.

The project is supported by $830,000 in funding from the Australian and Queensland governments through the SEQ Liveability Fund, one of 29 commitments in the SEQ City Deal. The SEQ City Deal is a partnership between the Australian and Queensland governments, and Council of Mayors (SEQ) which aims to deliver projects of long-lasting benefit to the region.
