Council supports local Scout Group

Lockyer Valley Regional Council has partnered with the Withcott Scout Group to support a special project that’s in the works.

This term, the Scouts’ Joeys and Cubs will do their bit to help both the environment and community through an initiative focused on planting native shrubs around the Den.

Environment Portfolio Councillor Cheryl Steinhardt said Council, through the Resilient Rivers (SEQ) program, would donate 50 native trees and shrubs to bring the project, located on Roches Road, Withcott, to life.

“This is a great initiative that’s engaging children and students in environment and sustainability topics.

“These aren’t just any natives – they’re specific bird, bee, and butterfly-friendly natives.

“This will not only support local biodiversity, but also serve as a long-term educational tool.

“The Scouts will be able to engage with the environment directly and watch the plants grow and flourish over time, which is a valuable and lasting learning experience.

“We encourage all our schools and community groups to use local native plants in their gardens and grounds where possible.

“In turn, this will help the wildlife in the area and will increase and enhance the biodiversity of the Lockyer Valley.

“It’s always great to see children and students engaged in the environment and sustainability,” Cr Steinhardt said.

Resilient Rivers (SEQ) is one of 29 commitments being delivered under the SEQ City Deal, a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ).
