Community spirit on show at Festival of Cultures

It was sunshine, not snow that greeted the enthusiastic crowds who fronted up to the Lockyer Valley Festival of Cultures at the weekend.

Despite an uncertain winter forecast and rain in the lead-up, crowds were greeted with a fine but breezy winter’s day on Sunday, which set the stage for a day of cultural celebration.

The family-friendly event provided vibrant music, a range of cultural food choices and activities, as people from all walks of life were encouraged to celebrate our region’s community and multicultural spirit.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said it was wonderful to see many of our distinct cultures on display.

“The Lockyer Valley is enriched by each of the cultures that have blended over time and the variety, enthusiasm and energy could be felt throughout the event.

“Crowds enjoyed live performances and a variety of international cuisines, all while relishing the inclusiveness of our community.

“A big thank you to everyone who came along and made this event possible – from the stallholders and performers to community groups, support services and residents.

“In one way or another, you all contributed to what was an incredible day,” Mayor Milligan said.

The event was organised in a collaborative approach between Council and local cultural groups and organisations and is supported by the Queensland Government through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.
