Council approves changes to trunk infrastructure contribution charges

Lockyer Valley Regional Council has announced changes to its trunk infrastructure charges to support the continued growth of the region.

Council will now levy the maximum charge to assist with the cost of establishing roads, stormwater and parks and land for community facilities, Planning and Development Portfolio Councillor David Neuendorf said.

“For the past few years, we’ve levied charges at a slightly lesser amount than the maximum for each land use as determined annually by the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.

“Going forward - for new developments not already approved by Council - we will levy the maximum contribution charge.

“This increase will contribute to the provision of trunk infrastructure in the region, reduce the cost burden on the community, and ensures inflation is taken into account,” Cr Neuendorf said.

Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the changes, which were endorsed at the July Council Meeting, were necessary to reflect the true cost of both delivering and maintaining key infrastructure.

“This is critical infrastructure we’re talking about and, as our community continues to grow, we must ensure we meet our community’s needs, while also remaining financially responsible.

“You only have to look around to see how much growth our region is experiencing, yet we must ensure our infrastructure is equipped to meet the growing needs of our community and the way of life we all know and love.

“The updated charges reflect the increased load development has on Council’s infrastructure networks and Urban Utilities’ (UU) water and sewerage networks, and this will ensure the sustainability of our vital public services,” Cr Hagan said.
