80 years of Book Week

Book Week is celebrating 80 years – and we want you to dress up and join us to mark this important milestone!

Lockyer Valley Libraries are gearing up to host Book Week later this month, across one massive week of celebrations.

Since 1945, Book Week has brought schools, libraries and communities together to celebrate the magic of reading and the people who bring stories to life. It is Australia’s longest-running and most-loved event for kids, families and book lovers everywhere!

Throughout the week of Monday 18 – Friday 22 August, you can celebrate Book Week with a scavenger hunt! The theme is Book an Adventure, so go on an adventure and see if you can discover the missing item to win a prize.

Then, come along to the Gatton and Laidley Libraries on Tuesday 19 August at 10am for a special Story Time event, which will keep the youngsters on their toes through exploring stories, rhymes, songs and craft.

Lockyer Valley Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said it was never too early to start reading to children – or too late to start.

“Reading aloud to children is one of the most beneficial things you can do as a parent – both from a literacy and connection point of view.

“Grab your costume, pick your favourite story, and come celebrate Book Week with us,” Cr Reck said.
