Work as “One Team” this Queensland Road Safety Week

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is proud to once again spread awareness for Queensland Road Safety Week and encourage residents to do their part in making our roads safer.

Devastatingly, last year 302 lives were lost on Queensland roads, the worst year for road safety in 15 years.

Running until Friday 22 August, this year’s theme of ‘We're One Team Queensland. Let’s drive like it’ is all about teaming up to drive safely because every journey matters.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said every decision we make behind the wheel really does count.

“Whether you are a driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian, we all need to act responsibly and make our roads safer.

“Our message is the choices we all make behind the wheel matter, so let’s use this opportunity to focus on actions like driving to the speed limit, putting our phones away and never driving under the influence.

“We’re One Team Lockyer Valley — so let’s drive with care, respect, and safety in mind,” Cr Hagan said.

Throughout this week, Council’s Gatton Administration Building and the Laidley Cultural Centre will glow yellow to raise awareness.

“While many people think of road crashes as something that happens to someone else, statistics show one in two Queenslanders have either been involved in a road crash or known someone who has.

"We all play a part to ensure other drivers, pedestrians and other road users arrive at their destination safely.

"Please remember to plan your travel routes, allowing yourself extra time to arrive at your destination and, as always, exercise patience and safety with other road users,” Cr Hagan said.
