Spring activations at Lockyer Valley Libraries these school holidays
Families need to look no further these spring school holidays, with Lockyer Valley Libraries to host a full schedule of fun and free activities for children of all ages.
Lockyer Valley Libraries’ school holiday program is now open for bookings, with many free activities for children of all ages to enjoy.
Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said children could enjoy everything from movie afternoons to STEM activities, art workshops and craft afternoons.
“It’s wonderful to see youngsters choose to come to our libraries to connect, learn and create during the school break.
“Our Libraries staff spend so much time putting together a fun and exciting schedule, so make the most of the beautiful spring days and explore the great activities, workshops, and shows happening across the Lockyer Valley region,” Cr Reck said.
Activities to enjoy include:
WHAT: GOMA Asia Pacific Triennial Kids
WHEN: Gatton, Wednesday 24 September, 9am - 10am* and 10.30 - 11.30am* (bookings required) 12pm – 5pm (drop-in, bookings not required)
Children can explore their creativity through making and multimedia interactives and reflect on the experiences of others through drawing and video works by artists from India, Aotearoa New Zealand, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia/Palestine, Cambodia and Timor-Leste.
WHAT: Dino Discovery Day Lake Apex Parklands
WHEN: Gatton, Thursday 25 September 10am – 1.30pm.
This event has been made possible by Lockyer Valley Community Centre. Get ready for some Roarsome fun, while being transported back millions of years in time! Imagine a 4m tall Velociraptor, life size dinosaur bones, a baby dinosaur petting experience, and learning fascinating facts about these ancient giants.
WHAT: Jumping Beans and Racing Spiders
WHEN: Gatton, Friday 26 September, 10am - 11am.
Use your creativity to make an amazing jumping bean and a racing spider. Use your bean to explore inclined planes and gravity and use your spider to race your friends. Recommended for children aged 6-12 years old.
WHAT: Scavenger Hunt
WHEN:Monday 20 September to Friday 3 October, Gatton and Laidley, all day.
Test your sleuthing skills! Go on a scavenger hunt and see if you can crack the code. This activity is self-guided, parental supervision is required. Bookings not required.
WHAT: Make a Paper Roller CoasterSTEM Activity
WHEN:Wednesday 18 September in Gatton, 10am; Laidley, 2pm.
Use your skills to design and engineer a Wonder Park roller coaster! Will your coaster have steep hills, big dips, crazy turns, or big loops? Recommended for ages 6 to 13.
WHAT: Talk Like a Pirate Day
WHEN:Tuesday 17 September in Gatton, 9.30am; Laidley, 3pm.
Arrr me hearties! Dress up like a pirate for this special story time. ‘X’ marks the spot on the treasure hunt with a pirate story, walk the plank, dig for treasure, catch a fish, and make a telescope.
WHAT: Free-Play LEGO/DUPLO Fun
WHEN:Gatton, Tuesday 23 September, 10am - 11am and Laidley, Friday 3 October, 10am - 11am.
Use your imagination and see what you can create in our free LEGO/DUPLO play! Build a scene, make a vehicle, or something different - you can choose! Recommended for families. Bookings not required.
WHAT: Everything Science
WHEN:Gatton, Tuesday 30 September, 10am - 11am. Laidley, Thursday 2 October, 10am - 11am.
Get ready for a hands-on science adventure in the library. Join us for exciting experiments that spark curiosity and bring science to life. For children aged 6-12 years old.
WHAT:Movie with a snack
WHEN:Gatton and Laidley, Monday 22 September and Monday 29 September, 2pm - 4pm.
Join us for a relaxed afternoon. Watch a family movie while enjoying a snack. Bookings not required. Recommended for families.
