R U Ok?
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is putting a spotlight on mental health this ‘R U OK?’ Day and is once again supporting the important national initiative.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan encouraged everyone to understand and acknowledge the importance of checking in with each other as we navigate this fast-paced life.
“Conversations around our mental health are so important, but we must remember these conversations shouldn’t just be reserved for days like today.
“Asking how someone is and checking in with friends and family should be something we do every day.
“As a community, let’s be brave and lead by example when it comes to our mental health.
“’RU Ok?’ Day is focused on asking three simple words – Are you Ok?
“Let’s face it – we all need and crave connection and it’s also important to be aware of the signs that someone close to you might be struggling.
“I want our community to know that I get it – these are tough times we’re facing with housing affordability, energy bills, and food prices, an increasingly polarised society, various health challenges and more.
“As a Council, I certainly want to prioritise not just physical wellbeing, but mental, emotional, spiritual and relational wellbeing too.
“My message is let’s work together to break down the stigma of these conversations.
“It might only be a simple few words, but they really have the power to make a big difference,” Mayor Milligan said.
To mark the day, Council staff not only sported yellow, but also encouraged staff to meaningfully check-in with their workmates.
