Breast Cancer Awareness Month an important cause for LVRC 

Lockyer Valley Regional Council staff and councillors will once again stand in solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer throughout the month of October.

Proud to throw their support behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month yet again, the organisation will come together to put an important spotlight on the Pinktober global health campaign.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or Pinktober, is an opportunity for staff and councillors to pay tribute to the brave women, and men, who are fighting or have lost their battle with the insidious disease that is breast cancer.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the month of October was all about shining a spotlight on early detection, research and support.

“Throughout this month, our team at Council will conduct a range of internal fundraising efforts to support our local cancer support group and we’re encouraging the community to get involved in fundraising too.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, with one in seven receiving the diagnosis in their lifetime and I really want our residents to take a moment to learn about breast cancer and how vital early detection is.

“Through awareness and encouraging early detection, we can help to save lives.

“Women who get screened regularly have a much higher chance of detecting breast cancer early, which significantly boosts their odds of successful treatment and survival.

“In fact, early detection could mean the difference between life and death, saving countless women from more advanced stages of the disease,” Mayor Milligan said.

Staff will have the option to sport pink throughout the month, donating each time they do so to support efforts to combat the impacts of breast cancer.

“All funds raised will be forwarded directly to the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group, to help make a tangible difference right here in the Lockyer Valley.

“The cancer support group assists cancer patients with transport to appointments as well as providing a safe group to chat about the impacts of this disease,” Mayor Milligan said.
