Council team raises funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Lockyer Valley Regional Council has capped off its latest community effort for 2025, raising almost $1000 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Council staff and councillors sported pink throughout the month of October, with all funds raised helping to support the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Council staff and fellow councillors once again did their bit to support this important initiative.

“We’re committed to supporting our community members who are impacted by breast cancer and will continue to fundraise and spread awareness throughout our community.

“Cancer presents some unexpected challenges and changes in life that might look and feel distressing, isolating and even hopeless at times.

“Sadly, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women outside of non-melanoma skin cancer.

“The Cancer Support Group assists cancer patients with transport to appointments as well as providing a safe group to chat about the impacts of this disease.

“We love partnering with our community organisations and we’re proud of our team for continually giving back to our region.

“I urge all residents, including men, to educate themselves more about breast awareness – it really could save your life.

“Early detection is crucial for improving the chances of survival, so if the pink we wear or the pink lights that are illuminated on Council buildings during Pinktober reminds just one person to book a screening, it’s all worthwhile.

“I encourage everyone in the community to spread the word and share information about the importance of regular breast screening with friends and family,” Mayor Milligan said.

Council staff donated a gold coin or more each time they sported pink throughout the month to support efforts to combat the impacts of breast cancer, as well as hosting Pinktober morning teas.
