Council to begin bitumen reseal program

To enhance safety and reliability, Lockyer Valley Regional Council will soon undertake asphalt resurfacing and bitumen reseal works in Withcott, Murphys Creek, Helidon and Helidon Spa.

The works, which will take place over the next few months, involve applying a fresh bitumen seal to identified roads.

Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said resealing was an important part of road maintenance.

“The identified roads in the 2025-26 Bitumen Reseal Program have experienced a considerable amount of wear and tear, so this work is important to keep them in good condition.

“Our community is almost completely reliant on roads for transport and that is why we are investing in the maintenance of our local streets.

“Overall, bitumen resealing works to prevent water getting below the surface and causing damage which then reduces potholes, improving driving conditions and road safety.

“This process involves adding a new layer of bitumen and stones to protect the road and extend its life by eight to 14 years, depending on traffic.

“Residents living on a section of street that will be resealed will receive a letter from Council notifying them of the upcoming works.

“Thank you to everyone in advance for your patience as this essential maintenance work is carried out,” Cr Hagan said.

The works are scheduled to take place in stages between Monday 24 November 2025 and Friday 27 March 2026, weather permitting. Traffic management measures will be in place during this period.

The program is jointly funded by both Council and the Australian Government through its Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program.

The RTR Program supports maintenance of the nation’s local road infrastructure asset, which facilitates greater access for Australians and improved safety, economic and social outcomes.
