Forest Hill Silos Mural Artist Wanted

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for artists for the Forest Hill Silos Project.

The Forest Hill Silos Precinct and Mural Art Project will deliver the closest silo art to South East Queensland’s booming population, providing a significant injection to the economy of nearby towns and businesses.

Experienced artists are now being sought to enter an EOI process for the development of a high quality, large scale public artwork/mural on the four GrainCorp silos at Forest Hill.

The project received $1.85 million in funding through the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund, one of 29 commitments under the SEQ City Deal – a $1.8 billion partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ) to deliver long-lasting benefits for the fast-growing SEQ region.

Council’s Mayor, Tanya Milligan said the project is gaining momentum with its delivery and would require a multi-faceted approach.

“In Phase 1 of the silo art component, we’re seeking EOIs from a suitably qualified artist or artists, who will be responsible for the design, creation and placement of the artwork on the GrainCorp silos,” she said.

“Prior experience in a project of this scale is a must.”

Mayor Milligan said that at the completion of the initial EOI process, three artists will be short-listed prior to Christmas, to participate in the subsequent Request for Tender process.

“It will be during this phase that artists will develop their concepts for presentation to the selection panel in February/March of 2026,” Mayor Milligan said.

“On selection of an artist, it is expected the painting of the silos will occur over a three-month period, sometime between April to September next year.”

Mayor Milligan said background work is also progressing on the accompanying Viewing Precinct, situated across the road from the silos, with an Operational Works Permit just weeks away from being issued.

“Once the permit is in place, the team will proceed to secure a contractor to carry out the civil construction and landscaping, with these works also to be completed in the later part of 2026,” she said.

“Council and Lockyer Valley residents are eagerly anticipating the construction of the Forest Hill Silos Project.”

The Artist EOI closes 2pm Friday, 12 December 2025.
