Australia Day celebrations across the Lockyer Valley

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is gearing up for a vibrant Australia Day celebration on Monday 26 January 2026 – and you’re invited to come along.

Australia Day will be marked in many ways across the region, with Council once again presenting its Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony at Gatton Shire Hall, beginning at 9am.

Featuring family-friendly activities, live entertainment and morning tea, Australia Day 2026 offers an opportunity to reflect on our recent challenges, respect those who put others before themselves and celebrate our nation’s resilience and unity.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the Awards Ceremony served to honour those residents who helped to shape a resilient and vibrant community.

"Australia Day is a time to celebrate the values of community, inclusion and belonging while also reflecting on our shared history.

"Our Australia Day program offers opportunities for people of all ages to come together in ways that are respectful, welcoming and genuinely reflective of our community.

“If you submitted a nomination this year, please accept our thank you.

“This small act goes a long way to shining a light on those individuals and groups whose work often happens quietly, behind the scenes.

“Behind every nomination is a story of one of our valued residents impacting our home in a positive way.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to all nominees, who all made significant contributions to our community.

“Following the formalities, we’re inviting everyone to join us for a morning of Australiana entertainment, activities, and food.

“We’re excited to have live music by local musician Peta Pomerenke, face painting, and catering by Native Oz Bushfoods.

“We will also welcome our newest citizens at our Citizenship Ceremony, held at the end of the Award proceedings,” Mayor Milligan said.
