New volunteers are needed to bolster the Lockyer Valley’s SES units – could this be you?
Donning orange overalls and lending a hand is a way to give back to your community, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said.
“The Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) is avolunteer-based emergency service formed from thousands of volunteers with a variety of backgrounds and professions.
“Our region is prone to severe storms, flash flooding and creek rises, making the SES a critical part of local safety and resilience efforts.
“We have SES groups in Gatton, Laidley and Forest Hill, and they are all calling for volunteers to join their units and assist in the response to disaster and emergency events,” Mayor Milligan said.
She said no prior experience was required and encouraged everyday locals to apply.
“No experience is necessary, all training is provided, and roles are flexible so they can fit in with your schedule.
“Everyone has something to offer – and the SES matches roles to strengths, regardless of fitness, age or background.
“If you want to learn lifelong skills and contribute to the Lockyer Valley in one of the most meaningful ways, joining the SES could be the perfect fit for you.
“During disasters and emergencies locally, state-wide and nationally, people are at their most vulnerable.
“Volunteering with the SES offers so much – it builds confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging with your community.
“We want our community-minded residents to come forward and lend a hand,” Mayor Milligan said.
