Community urged to have its say on Gatton-Esk Road upgrade

Locals are being urged to have their say on future upgrades to a flood-prone section of Gatton-Esk Road, including Lockyer Creek Bridge.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is currently inviting feedback from the community on ways to improve flood resilience and connectivity along Gatton-Esk Road, between Millers Road, Adare and the Warrego Highway, Gatton.

Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said this was a chance for the community to share their experiences and contribute to the planning process.

“Residents and businesses that use this route know Lockyer Creek Bridge is a major issue for transport during floods,” he said.

“Every time it goes under, people get cut off, and the Correctional Centre also gets isolated from Gatton, which is the closest major centre for emergency services and medical facilities.”

Cr Hagan encouraged the community to get involved by providing firsthand feedback to help shape design solutions during TMR’s consultation period, which runs until 9 April 2026.

“We’ve been advocating for a long time to have this crucial transport link and Lockyer Creek Bridge upgraded so road users can continue to get in and out during major wet weather events,” he said.

“We’re grateful to the State Government and Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald for committing to improving flood resilience along Gatton-Esk Road and delivering on this election promise.

“While any upgrades will be welcomed, the main sticking point along this corridor is the bridge. It is critical that it’s fixed as part of any future upgrade.”
