The Easter break is just around the corner and Lockyer Valley Libraries has once again scheduled a host of activities to keep kids and teens occupied.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor, Julie Reck said the Libraries’ team would offer a full program of activities to nourish young bodies and minds.
“If you’re looking for things for kids and teens to do in the region over the school holidays, check out what’s on at Lockyer Valley Libraries!
“Families looking for fun and creative activities these school holidays can head to their library, with a fantastic line-up of free workshops and crafts for kids of all ages.
“Some activities require bookings, so check out what’s on offer and lock it in,” she said.
- The Great Duck Hunt, Tuesday 7 April, 11am. All over the Lockyer Valley – follow the Lockyer Valley Libraries Facebook page for a list of parks.
A quacking good time for everyone! Join the Great Duck Hunt in parks across the Lockyer Valley – this is a free family-friendly event with prizes to be won. From 11am, Tuesday 7 April, ducks will be hidden out in Lockyer Valley community parks. Each park will have one rubber duck, one sign and multiple 'Duck into the Library' cards hidden to find. Find a rubber Duck - return the duck to Gatton or Laidley Library to instantly win a $10 gift card and go in the draw to win 1 of 2 $50 gift cards. Families can adopt their duck and receive an adoption certificate. Find a 'Duck into the Library' card - return the card to Gatton or Laidley Library to win a runner up prize and go in the draw to win 1 of 2 $50 gift cards. Spot a Sign - take a photo of the sign or remember the message and name of the park and show library staff to go in the draw to win 1 of 2 $50 gift cards. Each park has a different sign; each sign is one entry. This activity is self-guided, parental supervision is required.
- From Tuesday 7 April to Thursday 16 April, both Libraries will offer a Scavenger Hunt to test your sleuthing skills – testing your ability to crack the code? The code changes three times each week so make sure you revisit!
- On Monday 13 April (Gatton) and Tuesday 14 April (Laidley), come along to the Lego Bridge Building Challenge* from 10am – 11am. You can join in the LEGO Bridge Building Challenge at the library – it’s fun, free, and full of creativity. Gatton, all day.
- Friday 27 March to Sunday 12 April will offer Express Yourself with Activities by Vipoo Srivilasa. Held at the Gatton Library, you can experience exciting, free, hands-on art-making activities in the Lockyer Valley Art Gallery (Gatton). This project invites visitors to explore emotions through different activities such as dancing, drawing and digital media to create works that express thoughts, ideas and feeling.
- Library Underground - Special Dig and Discover Bug Investigation at Gatton, Wednesday 15 April, 10am - use illuminated magnifying glasses to investigate bugs, worms and cool creepy crawlies! Hold a stick insect, dig and discover worms with The Worm Man.
- Rock On at the Library with the Lockyer Valley Lapidary Club at Gatton (Friday 10 April, 10am) and Laidley (Friday 17 April, 10am) - Examine some cool ‘old rocks’, look at real fossils, paint a rock to take home while discovering what is under the ground.
