Secured home for local dog rescue
The future of an important Laidley dog rescue service has been secured, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council approving a five-year lease agreement for Promising Paws Inc.
Promising Paws’ Treasurer, Gary Simmons said the lease extension represented a meaningful investment in both animal welfare and the wellbeing of the local community.
“By providing ongoing stability, the shelter can continue its vital work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable dogs, ensuring they are given a second chance at life in safe and loving homes.
“In 2025 alone, Promising Paws Inc successfully rehomed more than 90 dogs, and with the security of an extended lease, we are well positioned to improve on that number in 2026.
“Beyond helping animals, the shelter also brings social and economic benefits to the region—creating volunteer opportunities, fostering community engagement, and promoting responsible pet ownership.
“This continued partnership strengthens the bond between residents and local services, making the Lockyer Valley a more compassionate and connected place for both people and pets,” Mr Simmons said.
The lease agreement enables Promising Paws Inc to continue to operate out of the Council-owned dog rescue facility at 2103 Rosewood Laidley Road, Laidley.
Council’s Corporate Services Portfolio Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Cr Chris Wilson said Council also approved a request for Promising Paws to increase its lease area.
“The current lease was set to expire at the end of this month, and this is a great outcome for this important community facility.
“It’s so important we continue to offer adequate care for those animals who are without a home and maintain the welfare standards we are accustomed to offering here in the Lockyer Valley.
“Promising Paws and its dedicated volunteers are doing a great job, and we are proud to be supporting this local organisation making a big difference.”
