Lost pet or animal? Council’s website can help!
Lost your beloved pet? Lockyer Valley Regional Council is encouraging pet owners to view Council’s website first!
Local Laws Portfolio Councillor, Cheryl Steinhardt said Council’s website now features a dedicated page where residents can view the dogs, cats and livestock that are at the Gatton Pound.
“Our new Impounded Animals Register on Council’s website is the place to go to see if your pet or animal is safe and waiting to be reunited with you.
“The page is updated regularly and includes a photo of each animal to help identify them, as well as information on where they were found, their gender and other key details.
“Many of the animals that wind up in the pound have been wandering around the community and Council has been alerted to bring them in. Other times, community members will find a stray and drop them off to us.”
Cr Steinhardt said before posting on lost and found sites or community pages, owners should check the Impounded Animals Register or call Council on 1300 005 872 first.
“The register allows owners to quickly and easily check if their missing pet has been brought in.
“We’re asking people to spread the word about the new register to family and friends so we can get every animal back where they belong as soon as possible,” she said.
Cr Steinhardt said Council was committed to giving every impounded animal the best possible chance, whether that was reuniting them with their family or helping them find their forever home elsewhere.
“Domestic animals that are not claimed will be assessed for rehoming and given to the Animal Welfare League Queensland to help them find a loving new home.
“Pet owners can also play their part by ensuring their animal wears a collar that includes their contact details, and by ensuring their dog is registered, and their registration details are up to date.
“If a dog’s registration details are current and they are wearing their green tag, we can call their owner straight away rather than having to impound them.
“While we often get animals who are microchipped, many times those details list the breeder or are no longer current.
“Pet owners are also reminded of their responsibilities to keep their animals securely contained at all times to prevent them from roaming,” Cr Steinhardt said.
