Mount Berryman floodway works set to begin
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s crews will begin works on the reconstruction of the Mount Berryman floodway later this month.
It follows Council’s success last year in securing $575,000 in funding under the Federal Government’s Disaster Ready Fund (DRF) Round 3.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan said Council would commit an additional $575,000 to see this floodway reconstruction come to life, bringing the total investment in the renewal of the Mount Berryman floodway to $1.150M.
“The Mount Berryman floodway, located around 100m north of Berlin Road, is showing its age and has become increasingly susceptible to damage.
“The new floodway will be more resilient to inundation, ensuring this vital piece of infrastructure for the long-term.
“It will also be widened to allow for two-way traffic.
“Once signage is installed, crews will build a single-lane sidetrack on the upstream side of the current crossing for the duration of the concrete works and install motion activated traffic lights to control traffic through the site, which will work to reduce time delays.
“The next step will be to demolish the existing structure and culverts, excavate for the culvert base slab and pour it.
“The culvert installation will be next, followed by the floodway deck and then the batters and headwalls.
“Once we have the new floodway trafficable, we will remove the sidetrack and carry out the roadworks on the approaches, with the final steps being traffic lines and signage,” Cr Hagan said.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete by the end June.
