Come along for a true crime evening with author Edwina Shaw
Ipswich author Edwina Shaw will unpack a local notorious crime when she visits the Gatton Library next month.
Edwina’s latest title Dear Madman is a historical crime memoir based on a tragedy that has haunted her family for generations.
In the Lockyer Valley in 1911, her great grandfather unwittingly hired a dangerously disturbed man with a history of violent crimes against girls to work on the family farm, endangering the lives of his wife and four young daughters.
But when the man accidentally revealed his true identity, Edwina’s great grandfather fired him, setting in motion a chain of events that inevitably led to murder.
Council’s Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said the talented Queensland-based author wore many hats.
“Edwina Shaw is the editor of fiction, memoir and screenplays. She also teaches creative writing, runs Relax and Write Retreats and is co-director of Transformational Writing Retreats
“She has published numerous books and more than 40 short pieces, including in Best Australian Stories,” she said.
Cr Reck said Lockyer Valley Libraries regularly hosted author events to inspire both readers and aspiring writers.
“Our author talk program celebrates creativity, conversation and connection through storytelling.
“We’re happy to welcome such gifted authors to our region to share their knowledge and passion for creating inspiring stories.
“Attendees will gain insights into each author’s creative process, character development and the real-life inspirations behind their work,” she said.
