Council adopts its annual Operational Plan
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has adopted its Operational Plan 2026-27, setting out a range of major projects and strategic initiatives that will be delivered over the coming year.
The Operational Plan outlines significant projects that sit alongside Council's extensive day-to-day services, infrastructure maintenance programs and business-as-usual operations that support communities across the region.
Council’s Deputy Mayor and Corporate Services Portfolio Councillor, Chris Wilson said the Operational Plan provided a roadmap for a number of key projects that would help shape the future of the Lockyer Valley.
"While Council delivers hundreds of services and projects every year, the Operational Plan focuses on the significant initiatives and strategic priorities we have committed to progressing over the next 12 months," Cr Wilson said.
"These are projects that will help strengthen our communities, support our economy, improve resilience and plan for the future of the Lockyer Valley."
Among the major initiatives included in the Operational Plan 2026-27 are continued work on regional water security through the Lockyer Valley and Somerset Water Collaborative Project, progression of the Laidley Flood Mitigation Project, completion of the Community Plan 2027-2037 and Council’s 5-year Corporate Plan as well as the delivery of the Forest Hill Silos Precinct and Mural Project.
The Operational Plan also includes development of a new Sport and Recreation Plan to guide future investment in sporting and recreational infrastructure, development and implementation of a policy to manage unintended camping in public spaces, improvements at the Laidley Saleyards, and upgrades to Council's disaster monitoring capabilities to support flood operations and emergency response.
Cr Wilson said many of the initiatives addressed priorities identified by the community.
"Whether it's planning for future water security, determining Council’s strategic priorities for the next 5 years, reducing flood risk, supporting tourism opportunities, improving local facilities or helping shape the future direction of the region, these projects are about delivering outcomes that matter to our community," he said.
"The Operational Plan complements the significant work Council undertakes every day to maintain roads, parks, waste services, libraries, community facilities and other essential services that residents rely on."
With the Operational Plan now adopted, Council will begin delivering the initiatives over the coming financial year and will keep the community updated on its progress.
