A major upgrade of Jean Biggs Park, Withcott is now complete.
The works, which began in April, included the installation of a brand-new playground section, new landscaping and shade sails.
Council’s Parks and Gardens Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said the upgrades have made the space more accessible and enjoyable for the whole community.
“The new playground, which features all Australian-made equipment, will further encourage the physical, cognitive, social and emotional play opportunities for all ages and abilities,” he said.
“One of the key features of the new playground is the wheelchair accessible flying fox, which we’re sure will be a big hit with visitors.
“The park now includes new landscaping, walkways, updated seating and benches, new softfall and mulch and a refreshed basketball half court.
“The park is also sporting completed earthworks, landscaping and sandstone blocks, as well as vegetation planting in the mulched areas.
“We extend our thanks to the State Government for its funding boost that made these improvements possible.
“We also acknowledge the significant initiative and contribution of the Withcott community, coordinated through the Withcott & District Progress Association Inc., who helped raise funds and advocated for this project.”
Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald said the upgrades were a great example of the Crisafulli Government partnering with councils and communities to deliver better local facilities.
"We are delivering for Queensland by investing in the parks, playgrounds and community spaces that families rely on every day, and it’s fantastic to see these upgrades now complete for local residents and visitors," Mr McDonald said.
"The improvements at Jean Biggs Playground will provide more opportunities for people of all ages to get active, connect with one another and enjoy the outdoors, helping make the Lockyer Valley an even better place to call home."
Meanwhile, works are also complete on a new outdoor gym, featuring multiple equipment stations, at the Laidley Recreational Reserve.
“We all know how important physical activity is and outdoor gyms are an effective way to encourage that,” Cr Wilson said.
“Physical activity is not only important for maintaining overall health but also works to reduce chronic diseases and improve mood and mental health too.
“We’re hoping these new recreation spaces will encourage younger residents to get off screens and get out on their bikes and scooters with mum and dad.”
The Jeans Bigg Park works are proudly funded by the Queensland Government. The outdoor gym was fully funded by Council.
