Council crews trial new additive for gravel resheeting works
A new road construction additive designed to hold gravel roads together for longer was put to the test when Lockyer Valley Council’s Infrastructure Operations team completed scheduled gravel resheeting works.
Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said crews trialled the use of a polymer additive to the gravel on half of Otto Road, Plainland, to assess performance, including dust suppression and longevity.
“If the trial is successful, it could mean smoother roads, less dust and fewer maintenance issues for residents, while helping Council get better value from every dollar invested in road maintenance,” he said.
In addition to assessing efficiencies in the gravel resheeting program, the Operations team also completed initial works for the 2026-27 reseal program, including asphalt corrector works using the Hino Austroads Paveline truck. With the addition of specialised attachments, this equipment can carry out asphalt correction works with Council’s own equipment and crews.
By completing more of these works in-house, Council can reduce costs and direct funding towards maintaining and improving more local roads.
Repairing and maintaining our local road network remains a top priority, Cr Hagan said.
“The roll out of annual road maintenance remains at the top of Council’s agenda.
“Roads are a huge expense to local governments and Council understands that potholes and uneven road surfaces are an inconvenience for motorists.
“We always aim to attend to issues as soon as possible once they’ve been reported, and I’m confident the completion of road maintenance on the below gravel roads will be welcomed by many in the community,” Cr Hagan said.
