Festival of Cultures Brings Communities Together
It was a vibrant day of cultural celebration, connection and shared experiences at the Lockyer Valley Festival of Cultures when it was held on Sunday.
The family-friendly event, held at the Gatton Shire Hall, showcased the many cultures that contribute to the fabric of the Lockyer Valley, with live music, traditional performances, cultural activities and a diverse range of cuisines creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together.
Council’s Mayor Tanya Milligan said the event provided an opportunity for people to come together, learn from one another, and recognise the valuable contribution that every culture makes to our community.
"We welcomed around 750 people through the Hall doors yesterday, with the enthusiasm and support shown by the community throughout the Festival truly inspiring.
“To see community members of all ages and backgrounds come together to celebrate culture, connection and belonging is a reminder of what makes the Lockyer Valley such a special place to live.
“From the Solomon Islanders dancing in their costumes to the Irish-influenced Noah Simpson Trio, traditional African drumming, ancient Asian dancing, our local children from Starlite Dance Studio, and storytelling videos, the performances were both captivating and inspiring.
“The Lockyer Valley is enriched by each of the cultures that have blended over time, and the variety, enthusiasm and energy could be felt throughout the event.
"We are proud of the many cultures that call the Lockyer Valley home. By celebrating our cultural heritage, we not only honour our past but also strengthen the connections that bring our community together.
“Crowds enjoyed live performances and a variety of international cuisines, all while relishing the inclusiveness of our community,” she said.
The event was supported by the Queensland Government through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.
