Lockyer Valley Regional Council drives road safety message home

It’s Queensland Road Safety Week and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is encouraging residents to think about their driving habits.

Running from today until Friday 21 August, the initiative is focused on reminding motorists to drive safely, stay alert and look out for everyone on our roads.

Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said it was an opportunity for everyone to refresh their knowledge of the top commonly misunderstood road rules.

“This includes everything from safety around U-turns, roundabouts, changing lanes, giving way at intersections and keeping left.

"A great way to think of it is as if we’re driving like we share the roads with our loved ones.

“If we all do this, hopefully we will see a decrease in the number of road-related deaths and injuries.

"Simple actions like planning your travel routes, allowing yourself extra time to arrive at your destination and, as always, exercising patience and safety with other road users really makes a difference,” Cr Hagan said.

Motorists will notice road safety messaging on Council’s Variable Message Signs, located at Withcott and Hatton Vale, while Council will also light up the Gatton Administration Building and the Laidley Cultural Centre yellow to mark the week.
