Grants open to support local environmental projects
If you’re an organisation or community group in the Lockyer Valley and are committed to improving the environment, apply now for a Community Environmental Grant.
Non-recurrent grants of between $500 and $5000 are on offer to schools and community organisations to undertake projects that will deliver solid environmental outcomes.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Environment Portfolio Councillor Cheryl Steinhardt said the grants focused on initiatives that promoted environmentally sustainable practices in the community such as improving biodiversity, reducing waste and lowering carbon emissions.
“The Community Environmental Grants Program is all about supporting a healthy, sustainable, and integrated natural environment for our communities.
“These grants are aimed at providing financial backing to practical, community-led environmental work to improve outcomes for our environment and strengthen community connections and resilience.
“We encourage eligible groups with an idea to apply and take advantage of this opportunity as these environmental grants only happen once a year.
“Applications are assessed on merit and the number of projects chosen is based on the availability of funds.
“This year, we have a total of $20,000 on offer, and we would love to see this grant round fully subscribed so we can support as many environmentally friendly projects as possible,” she said.
The grants will be awarded to schools and community-based organisations in the Lockyer Valley that focus on:
- Environmental initiatives
- Environmental education
- Environmental management
- Environmental conservation
- Environmental enhancement
- Building capacity for long-term sustainability.
Eligible applicants include not‑for‑profit organisations, community groups, social enterprises, sole traders, and other entities that can demonstrate clear community benefit.
