Register now for child safe workshop

Creating safer environments for children and young people is a responsibility shared by the whole community, and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is helping local organisations prepare for Queensland's new Child Safe requirements through a free information and training workshop.

Council’s Mayor, Tanya Milligan said the two-hour session would take a deep dive into everything community organisations needed to know about the new requirements.

"Every child and young person deserves to be safe when participating in sport, recreation, community programs and other activities across our region.

“The new requirements help organisations create safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for our children and young people.

“To help community organisations understand just what’s involved and what the changes mean in practice, the Queensland Family and Child Commission will deliver a free information and training session.

“Participants will learn about the 10 Child Safe Standards, Queensland's Reportable Conduct Scheme, what constitutes reportable conduct, how the Scheme operates, responding appropriately to disclosures from children and individual and organisational responsibilities under the legislation.

“These new requirements represent an important change for many community organisations, and I encourage clubs, committees, volunteers and community groups to take advantage of this free session and gain a clear understanding of what's required,” Mayor Milligan said.
