More features available on innovative Recycle Mate waste app

Thanks to a funding boost, Lockyer Valley residents are now able to access more features on the Recycle Mate app to help them recycle their waste correctly and easily.

Council has secured access to several new features of the Recycle Mate platform for the community through a three-year partnership arrangement between the Queensland Government and Recycle Mate, which allows free access for residents of participating councils.

Council’s Circular Economy Portfolio Councillor, Julie Reck said the Recycle Mate app was a one-stop waste handbook for residents.

“The app features a search widget and community map that will allow our residents to locate the correct disposal point for their waste items. They can even take a photo of an item, and the app will tell them which bin it belongs in or where it should be taken to.

“In addition, the app lists away from home recycling and recovery options, such as local op shops, recycling points at supermarkets, Containers for Change sites and many more.

“Residents can find their bin collection day information and subscribe to push notifications including bin night reminders.

“Council can use the app to communicate any important waste information, including transfer station changes, such as hours of operation or unforeseen closures or interruptions to waste collection services.

“We’re thankful to the State Government and Recycle Mate for this funding boost and look forward to seeing more residents use these new tools to recycle with confidence and reduce waste going to landfill,” Cr Reck said.

For those preferring to use a website over an app, Council’s website will host the community map and search widget, along with an AI chat bot which can answer questions and converse in more than 92 languages. These features can be found at www.lockyervalley.qld.gov.au/recycle-mate.
