Community representative group to guide vision for the Lockyer Valley

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Community Representative Group (CRG) will meet for the first time later this month, working to support the refresh of Council's next Community Plan.

Council’s Mayor Tanya Milligan said the CRG’s initial meeting on 16 September would mark the beginning of a series of facilitated workshops.

“Following an expression of interest process, 17 community members have been selected to participate in the group,” Mayor Milligan said.

“The CRG brings together a diverse cross-section of the Lockyer Valley community, with members including business owners and operators, retirees and people currently in the workforce, newer and long-term residents and a good range of ages.

“We’ve ensured both men and women are represented, and several members have called the region home for more than 20 years.”

Across six facilitated sessions, members will explore key themes affecting the Lockyer Valley and consider information gathered through previous community engagement activities and research.

“The takeaways from the sessions will provide invaluable insights and recommendations to help inform the development of the draft Community Plan, which will be presented to Council for consideration before being released for broader community feedback early next year,” Mayor Milligan said.

“Titled “Lockyer: Our Valley, Our Vision”,the Community Plan is the region’s long-term, community-owned strategic document.

“It highlights the desired future of the Lockyer Valley, reflects community values, priorities and aspirations, and provides the strategic foundation for Council’s Corporate Plan and decision-making.

“The group’s role is to represent the views and values of the broader community and help ensure the final Community Plan is meaningful and accurate.

“The CRG will meet six times between September and November 2026 and members will participate as individuals representing the broader community, not as representatives of organisations, interest groups, single-issue causes or campaigns.

“This is an exciting project, and we look forward to watching it unfold.”
