Lockyer Valley Libraries – delivering for the whole community
Meeting the needs and interests of the region’s residents remains at the forefront of Lockyer Valley Libraries, with the team continuing to provide a diverse range of offerings for all ages.
In the month of July, Libraries not only saw an increase in overall loans and active members, but a remarkable increase in community engagement with library programs and events.
Council’s Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said both Gatton and Laidley branches were stocked with a range of resources, programs, and services.
“Our Libraries really do bring so much to our community and are much-loved community hubs for learning, entertainment, and community connection.
“From school holiday activities to author talks and engaging story times that inspire a love of reading in children, our Libraries are also home to an extensive collection of books and digital resources.
“But these days, they’re much more than places to borrow books. They provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn, connect and discover new interests,” Cr Reck said.
Boasting a collection of more than 63,830 items, which is up from the 59,998 last year, Libraries have 15,881 members, including 161 new faces in July and recorded 13,760 loans for the month.
Recently, the team hosted school holiday library activities, which were well received and attended at both facilities.
With 74 events in total, there was something daily for families with children. Staff trialled a comic drawing event for 8–12-year-olds, which was so popular that planning is already underway for future events.
Other popular events included: LEGO Minute Masters (48 attendees); Mythical Creature Paper Puppets Craft (29 attendees); Movie and Colouring (40 attendees); NAIDOC Week Story Time and Craft (12 attendees); Escape the Comic (After Dark), Gatton (36 attendees) and a Scavenger Hunt (527 participants).
“These figures show just how important libraries are as diverse community spaces, offering residents opportunities to borrow books, engage in learning, connect with others, and participate in various activities, whether in-person or virtually.
“Council is eager to build upon this success, further enhancing the cultural, recreational and educational landscape of our region in the years to come,” Cr Reck said.
