Lockyer Valley Art Gallery turns its lens to ‘Her’
The Lockyer Valley Art Gallery’s next exhibition takes a deep dive into HER.
By Rhiannon Thistlethwaite, HER is a body of work celebrating feminine power in all its forms.
Through intimate portraiture, the exhibition explores the many dimensions of womanhood, celebrating its strength, softness, ambition, wisdom and individuality, while revealing the diverse qualities that shape women’s experiences.
Council’s Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor, Julie Reck said this exhibition would give residents and visitors plenty to discover.
“Each image features women from our community captured within familiar local landscapes,” Cr Reck said.
“I think identity is something a lot of women struggle with, especially through the many chapters of a woman’s life.
“HER invites every woman who has ever felt too much, not enough, or somewhere in between, to see something of herself reflected in the exhibition.
“There is that old saying that a woman can have it all, just not at the same time and I really felt that in this exhibition.
“It’s an important reminder that every chapter we experience is important and provides us with experiences that shape who and what we are.
“Photographic exhibitions are a wonderful addition to an art gallery, offering visitors an accessible and engaging way to experience visual art while seeing the world through someone else’s lens.”
See HER at the Lockyer Valley Art Gallery until 29 November. The Gallery is located within the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, 34 Lape Apex Drive Gatton.
